Upcoming version of iTunes may restore local Contact and Calendar syncing

As noted by 9to5Mac, Apple today seeded a new version of OS X Mavericks to its employees. The latest version, 10.9.3, includes iTunes 11.1.6 beta, which restores a local syncing feature removed when Apple debuted OS X Mavericks.
According to the release notes, iTunes 11.1.6 restores a local syncing function for contacts and calendar information that was removed in OS X Mavericks. Instead of allowing local sync between a Mac and an iOS device, Apple moved the sharing of personal information like bookmarks, contacts, and calendars to iCloud.
Many iOS owners were upset with this change and turned to Apple’s support forums to share their displeasure with Apple’s decision to drop support for local sync. It appears that Apple heard these complaints and may restore this feature in a future public release.
The broader OS X beta is a maintenance release and does not include any major changes or additional features. Apple is asking developers to focus on testing graphics and audio drivers in this latest beta version. These betas are now in the hands of Apple employees and are expected to land in Apple’s developer portal soon.
